Customer Question

I have a red spot on my left calf. It is sensitive to clothing rubbing on it. There is no rash and no blisters. Could it be shingles? I've had the vaccination for shingles, but I know that I can still get them.
JA: How long have you had the symptoms? What seems to make the symptoms worse or better?
Customer: I noticed it the night before last. It was a bit itchy burning yesterday,, but now it just seems sensitive to clothing.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: Can't think of anything related t this.

Hello

Expert:  Dr. Pravin replied 18 days ago.

The symptoms that you have mentioned do not sound like shingles.

Shingles commonly appear in clusters and are filled with water. They are normally associated with pain.

Itch is not commonly seen with shingles.

The red spot could be a folliculitis which is nothing but inflammation of the hair follicle.

I would suggest you to apply an over the counter Mupirocin ointment on the spot twice a day for 10 days.

Do let me know if you have any further queries.
