My lips have been feeling extremely tight for about 2

Customer Question

My lips have been feeling extremely tight for about 2 months. There is no dryness or flaking. The skin on my lips just feels very tight and uncomfortable. It started escalating to cuts in the corners of my mouth. No matter what kind or how much lip balm I put on it does not go away either. I increased my water intake and even started taking vitamins to get more B12. I do not know what else to do and just want my lips to feel normal again. Please help me
JA: Have you noticed any recent swelling? Do you have any tooth pain?

Hi Dr Mo here, please give me a moment to reply.

Do you have any pictures of your lips?

It sounds more like an allergic reaction rather than dehydration.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I don't have any pictures, but they look pretty normal to other people. You wouldn't know something was wrong with them unless I told you. It is just the uncomfortable feeling of them being really tight and unable to moisturize

Have you tried changing your diet around? Or applying any steroid cream to the lips?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
How should I change my diet? No, I havent tried steroid cream. Where can I get that?
Expert:  Dr. Mo replied 2 months ago.

I would recommend hydrocortisone 0.5% twice daily, a very small amount, maybe the size of a lentil for the entire top and bot***** *****p. Use it for 7 days.

Also, start putting on vaseline on the lips at night for 2-3 weeks.

As for the diet.

I suspect something you are eating is setting it off.

It is hard to say what, I generally recommend keeping a log of the foods you eat and writing down which one might cause the irritation of the lips to be worse.

Can I get hydrocortisone at any drugstore, like Walgreens?
Ok, I will start logging my foods. I should also tell you that I am vegan.
Expert:  Dr. Mo replied 2 months ago.

Yes, it's over the counter.

Can the hydrocortisone be 1%?
Expert:  Dr. Mo replied 2 months ago.

It can but it's more likely to thin the skin of the lips. It's okay to use but you have to use an even smaller amount than the lentil size I recommended
