My 11 year old son throws up everything he eats about 10 or

Customer Question

My 11 year old son throws up everything he eats about 10 or 15 minutes after he eats it he throw up stuff he drinks too but if he sips his drinks he can keep some down so he is not dehydrated. Its been going on since October 6th 2016. I have had him to the doctor 6 times since it started now I'm waiting on a referral to go through to the Children's hospital gastroenterology because that's the only place he can been seen since he is under 16. He's had blood work done x-ray of his stomach they said he was backed up. He also has a dry cough and coughs all the time. To get him into see the GI doctor it could be a month or longer because they are so busy. I am wondering if you might have a idea of what is wrong with my son. I don't know what else to do.

does he have chronic constipation?

is he having bowel movements at least once every 2-3 days?

has the laxatives and suppositories helped him have bowel movements? has the prilosec helped? who recommended this for him?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
No chronic constipation. He goes a least once every 2 or 3 days. His doctor put him on the Prilosec Otc. He can't keep any laxatives like miralax down and the suppositories help a little. He just throws up all the time.

he could be having gastroparesis or delayed stomach emptying which causes his stomach not to move food properly in the correct direction.

a radiology stomach emptying study can see if he has gastroparesis.

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Will a GI doctor have that done whenever he gets seen? How serious is that condition?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 5 months ago.

the GI doctor can order this stomach emptying study to check for gastroparesis which can cause him to vomit.

this can be a serious condition.

which can cause dehydration and malnutrition.

having that can cause him to throw up right after he eats every time he eats?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 5 months ago.

yes, gastroparesis can cause him to throw up right after he eats.

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
He hasn't kept anything significant down for 3 weeks and I don't know how long it will be before I can get him to a GI. I'm worried and I don't know what to do.
Expert:  Dr. David replied 5 months ago.

have him drink slowly water and pedialyte and milk shakes and carnation instant breakfast smoothies if he can keep things down

have him drink and sip on milk shakes slowly throughout the day.

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Can gastroparesis cause him to be constipated if so will it help to get him cleaned out?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 5 months ago.

if he is not eating very much and not drinking very much water, he will be constipated.

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Will getting him to go poop help get him any better?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 5 months ago.

no, that will not fix the gastroparesis if that is what he has.

he needs testing to find out what is going on with him.
