Customer Question

I have a pancreatic insufficiency that decreases my body's ability to absorb fat. I've had 3 fecal fat stool tests done and they show positive. This has been going on for about 6 months. I lost my appetite when I took an amino acid called glysine. I stopped the supplement which was given to me by a nutritionist for sleep and got my appetite back (somewhat) My last fecal fat test done in September shows positive still. I've changed my diet and would consider it almost gluten free (I do not have celiac disease) and probably lower fat than I usually would have. I don't deny myself too many foods, but I don't do dairy or soy. I've had an ultrasound and MRI of my abdomen and nothing but some small cysts on my liver and one on my kidney shows up. I have been under the care of a gastroenterologist who is as puzzled as I am as to why I'm not absorbing fat and perhaps not getting the nutrients from my food. I drink lots of water, take good supplements and try to eat as healthily as possible. He has now given me Creon 12,000, a pancreatic enzyme to take 3 times a day. I'm concerned about taking them as the side effects are high or low blood sugar (I'm hypoglycemic), viral infection from the enzyme since they're made from pigs' pancreas, gout and can cause difficulty breathing. I've had many adverse reactions to medications and I get a little concerned about taking something new. Do you have any idea what might cause my pancreatic insufficiency or if the enzymes "safe" to take. I do not have a diagnosis such as pancreatitis or EPI. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

at your age of 75, your pancreas could be giving out and not making enough pancreatic enzymes to help you with digestion of foods.

this can happen as we get older.

yes, you should try the creon pancreatic enzymes. it could help you digest fats and help you absorb nutrition and gain weight.
