My husband is a healthy 34 year old man experiencing

Customer Question

My husband is a healthy 34 year old man experiencing significant night sweats with some chills and shivering at times. Also gastrointestinal distress throughout the day including diarrhea and vomiting. He is under a great deal of stress at work, might this be the cause? How likely is it really that he has something interfering with the operation of his hypothalamus? Should he have bloodwork done to rule out endocrine issues?

Dear customer,

Thank you for the question.

Does he also have fever? Does he suffer from any medical condition or take any daily medication? Which investigations were done? Since when is this happening? Any other symptom such as weight loss? What is his weight and height?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
No daily medications, no alcohol consumption, no fever. He had been a pretty heavy drinker for a number of years but recently quit completely (under doctor supervision). He showed no symptoms of withdrawl and did not have any medications during detox. That was a month ago. He has had liver function test run on his bloodwork and the results were: GGT 70, Albumin 4.2 g/dL, Bilirubin .5 mg/dL, Bilirubin direct <.2 ng/dL, ALP 70, AST 23, ALT 24, Protein 7.4 g/dL. Weight is consistent and 200-205 lbs depending on what time of day he weighs himself, height 6 ft 1 inch (73 inches). He exercises daily consisting of cardio (usually running) and weight training (he is in the army).

Dear customer,

Thanks for your reply.

Though anxiety may cause all his symptoms including the night sweating, however before attributing the symptoms to anxiety your doctor needs to rule out certain causes for night sweats by doing certain investigations such as complete blood count, thyroid function tests, and stool examination. If all these are normal then it can be said that this is most likely due to anxiety. And even for the stress and anxiety he needs to see his doctor for treatment. There are medications available and also therapy which will reduce the stress and anxiety. He needs to also do mindfulness practice for a few minutes daily since mindfulness will reduce the stress.
