Hello this is Dr. Salama MD,

Generally steroids are not prescribed along with antibiotics for community acquired pneumonia.

However, in more severe cases of pneumonia requiring hospitalization they can be beneficial.

In fact, a recent study showed that systemic corticosteroids reduce hospital length of stay by about a day and speed the time to clinical stability by just over a day, and that they reduce the need for mechanical ventilation.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

If not, please don't forget to leave a positive rating (bonus appreciated) as that's the only way I get credit for answering your question.

Thank you!
