Im having problems with my throat. I wpke up this morning

Customer Question

Im having problems with my throat. I wpke up this morning and can barely swallow anything. It feels like my heart is in my throat. Ive also recently (after a cold in which I continued to drink and smoke) have had to clear my throat all the time.

Hi there. Are you having trouble swallowing because of pain or a feeling of obstruction?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No pain. It just feels like either my throat is tight or there is something there. My voice also feels like its wavering when I talk.

There is pain in my right ear and throat a bit if I inhale deeply and sharply

Are you having nasal discharge, fever or cough?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Little bit of fever but nothing else.Do I have cancer?
Expert:  Dr. Bob replied 1 month ago.

I would not worry about cancer. People don't just wake up at 27 with cancer in their throat.

But you could have an infection, like strep throat or an early abscess. This can give one ear pain and fever as well.

Or severe acid reflux can cause the throat to get inflammed and injure the vocal cords. This can be treated with acid blockers and reflux precautions.

How do I open my throat again? This feeling is horrible
Expert:  Dr. Bob replied 1 month ago.

I would see a doctor right away. Swelling in the airway can lead to respiratory distress. This would need to be managed with steroids and possibly antibiotics. An abscess would need to be drained. Reflux can be treated as well. But first you need to get the right diagnosis. At the ER they can do a CT scan of the throat or call down an ENT specialist to visualize what is going on inside your throat.
