Customer Question

My son 6 years old was diagnosed with a viral infection. His throat was so red, that they did a strep test. It came out negative, awaiting the lab one. I am worried, because school will be starting and they wouldn't prescribe medicine. I am not sure what to do. please give any advice.

This is Dr. David

I am sorry your son has been diagnosed with a viral infection.

I'm glad he had a negative throat strep test.

you should be giving him tylenol to help him decrease his throat pain and to treat any fever he may have.

he can eat ice cream and popcicles to help his throat pain.

he can also gargle with salt water which can help kill virus and bacteria in his throat

he will get better in a few days.

he can try to eat chicken soup and drink plenty of fluids

does he have a fever?

let me know if you have questions.
