In 2015, I was treated for Prostrate Cancer @ the AZ

Customer Question

In 2015, I was treated for Prostrate Cancer @ the AZ Prostrate Cancer Center in Phoenix, AZ by Dr. Thomas Canty, a specialist in Radiology-Radiation Oncology....from Mar'2015 through May'2015....
I am a service connected disabled Veteran & all fees are paid by the VAMC...Now Dr. Canty wishes to have my 1year follow up treatment conducted at his facility....however. my VA-Tri-West-Choice program advises me that my VA urologist can evaluate my condition....
Can a Urologist effectively evaluate the Beam Therapy's that were performed a 1 year ago by a Board Certified Radiology-Radiation Oncologist the exact same way that the performing surgeon can....????

This is Dr. David

I am a radiation oncology doctor

urology doctors are not well trained in radiation oncology and don't know radiation dose delivery and dosimetry issues

but they can evaluate your prostate and can evaluate your prostate cancer and can check your PSA level.

it is always best to see both a radiation oncology doctor and a urology doctor in follow up for prostate cancer after treatment, especially after radiation therapy to the prostate gland.
