Hello, I'm Dr Palmer. Lets see if I can assist you with your problem.
It started immediately after you ate? fevers or chills? diarrhea? nausea or vomiting?
Do you suffer from any medical condition or take any daily medications?

Certain foods can act as trigger for the reflux or backflow of acid which is normally secreted in the stomach to the esophagus in the chest, and this may cause the heartburn. However this should not cause the upper back pain, and if the pain continues for another week I would advice you to have an abdominal scan to diagnose the cause of the referred pain such as due to gallbladder stones. A gallstone can cause back pain present between the shoulder blades and also pain in the center of the abdomen, just below the breastbone.

This may well turn out to be a temporary symptom and will resolve in a few days. However if this continues for a week or more then needs to be investigated. Other organs such as pancreas when inflamed may also cause these symptoms and need to be looked for.
