For hypertension I take Tekturna 300/12.5 once daily;

Customer Question

For hypertension I take Tekturna 300/12.5 once daily; metoprolol 100mg er twice a day and clonidine 0.2mg twice daily. I also take plavix once daily. I can't tolerate the clonidine, as it causes severe drowsiness and shortness of breath. What other CLASS of medication (as tenex,etc. has the same symptoms) can I substitue for clonidinre, that won't cause these symptoms?

This is Dr. David

you can try clonidine transdermal which may not cause you as much fatigue

another option is methyldopa which can be used in moderate severe cases of high blood pressure. it could possibly cause dowsiness, but you have to try it to see.

or your doctor can add on a different class of blood pressure medication like an ACE inhib like lisinopril

or a calcium channel blocker like amlodipine.
