Hi,

Thanks for this question. Diverticulitis is a condition in which there is inflammation of the small defects or pouches in the lining of the intestine. The pouches are basically small pcokets which are formed in the lining of the intestine and when you eat certain food products that would lead to it being trapped in the pouches which eventually leads to inflammation and infection. This leads to development of diarrhea, abdominal pain usually in either lower right or left quadrant of the abdomen, tenderness, fever and sometimes blood or mucus in the stools. The diagnosis is made with a simple CT scan of the abdomen and treated with IV antibiotics. Now the diet for diverticulitis is the same as the diet for diverticulosis, which is the condition without inflammation of the pockets in the intestine.
