Customer Question

My son has had a long term issue with bowel movements. He is 8 yrs old and has frequent problems not feeling a movement when it happens. It is typically not a big movement, but we are desperate to find a solution. He is certainly not doing it on purpose or for attention. He has been tested for food allergies, but that doesn't seem to be the issue. When it happens, it is not diarrhea. Please help!

Hello this is Dr. Salama MD,

I would recommend increasing the fiber in his diet to bulk up his stools.

That way he will feel them better as he is ready to have a BM.

I would also recommend taking a prebiotic as it's indigestible and will also allow his stools to increase in size.

I would reduce the amount of sugars in his diet (such as fruits and juices) and increase the starch in his diet so his BMs are reduced in frequency but increased in size.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

If not, please don't forget to leave a positive rating as that's the only way I get credit for answering your question.

Thank you!
