Customer Question

MDs ONLY: I have a history of blocked salivary glands. I also have a history of boils along my jawline. The boil I have right now is next to my ear, super swollen and extremely painful. I had it drained a few days ago. When I did, I started to notice a symptom more like my blocked salivary gland issue (pain near jaw, pebble-like hardness and saliva when I rub it). Could the boil be tied to the salivary gland? How should I treat? And how do I know if I need to be concerned about a bigger issue, like salivary gland cancer?
JA: Are you keeping a personal medical record while dealing with this?
Customer: sure
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: blocked salivary glands and boils. that's about it.

This is Dr. David

yes, a boil on the skin there if it is deep enough can affect the salivary gland.

you may have to see an ENT doctor to get the boil drained and you might need a course of antibiotics.

warm compresses can help as well the boil and the blocked salivary gland.

I would not jump to worries about salivary duct cancers at this point
