Hello,

If you have lost 20 pounds without trying in past month then you need to get medical evaluation

What is up your age ?

Do you have any medical problems?

Take any meds ?

Problems that could lead to rapid weight loss could include many different possible problems ...type one diabetes/ diabetes insipidus / tuberculosis / various cancers / HIV -AIDS / malabsorption problems of the GI tract ...

Clues to illness might include nausea ? Fever ,chills, night sweats ? Abdominal pain? Frequent urination ? Frequent thirst ?

Let me know if you have further questions or concerns

I Will be happy to get back with you

If my answer has been helpful and to your satisfaction then please remember to leave positive feedback

24* Not that I'm aware of* Buspar, Trazodone, Hydroxyzene, and Citalopram* I've woken up sweating, felt somewhat chilled, and had abdominal pain (also had skiing accident recently)
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Hello!

Ok well I recommend that you make appointment with your primary care doctor very soon to start evaluation ....

Keep track of daily weights ...

Check your temperature AM and PM and keep record

Also pulse rate ...

Chills / sweats / Abdominal pain / weight loss >> these symptoms need to be checked further ...you need added testing ....

I hope that this helps to point you in the right direction ...

Let me know if you have further questions

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Recently I've seen tons of doctors due to being concerned about my heart as well as had blood tests. None of my doctors told me I had to worry about anything. I'm confused...
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Have you specified to your doctors about the weight loss ?? That should prompt evaluation ...

What tests have you had ?

Blood tests ? CBC -- Metabolic profile ? Hemoglobin A1c / C-peptide / amylase / LIPASE / HIV / urinalysis / renal function / thyroid function / liver function ....

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

With abdominal pain I think to have an abdomnal CT may be advisable as well....

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

What is your current height and weight ??

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
My weight is 138 and my height is 5'10"
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I've had blood tests done
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
My thyroid, liver, etc seemed to be working fine
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
There's NO reason I'd possibly have HIV or AIDS
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
My hemoglobin was fine as well
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Ok ...your current BMI is 19.8 ...low normal as underweight starts at 18.5 BMI ( 128 pounds )

Yet the unwanted WEIGHT LOSS remains disturbing and needs explanation...

Tests that you report this far seem fine I agree ...more extensive tests needed in my opinion however....

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

No diarrhea ?? No frequent urination problems??

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I have been going to the restroom a lot but I'm wondering if lack of sleep coudl cause this
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

It matters too as to how your weight behaves from this point forward as well....

If same in 2 weeks / 4 weeks / 6 weeks then that paints less concern than continuing unexplained weight loss...

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Lack of sleep should not itself ...

Do you take any stimulants ? Caffeine / Adderall / Ritalin / cocaine / amphetamines ....

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Well for about a month me weight has been around 136 - 140. Before this month I weighed something like 160 so this has concerned me as well.
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Caffeine is the only of those I take
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

I agree that an unexpected drop from 160 is of concern ...

So for past month more stable weight then?

Have you had other improvement such as less abdominal pain??

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Over the past month my weight hasn't changed drastically
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I haven't really seen many improvements
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I've been fairly tired recently
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

So it may have been a GI problem....

Ok the fatigue may also be a clue symptom ...broad in nature on that however

.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
what do you mean by a GI problem
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Diarrhea ? You might benefit to have stool studies sent ..

GI --- gastrointestinal....

Small intestine or colon .....

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Would you worry about this a lot
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
What would you do to solve this besides see a doctor
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

I would take it seriously ...

Recommend that you see a gastroenterologist ...

The gastrointestinal tract seems to be more the source of the weight loss problem....

I don't have an alternative really to good medical evaluation and care

I agree it is encouraging that your weight loss seems to have stabilized ...

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Could this be life threatening
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

I don't know what your diagnosis is so impossible to give you any reasonable prognosis ....

That being said I think it is a good sign that you have had stabilized weight and the rapid drop has tapered off...

You might have an intestinal parastic infection as one of many possible issues ...

I do strongly advise that you follow though with this issue however ...

It could be that one week of an antibiotic may completely put you back on tract ....

Certain problems could be of more serious nature ...

I hope that this is helpful for you

Let me know if you have further questions or discussion

Best regards!

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Hello again,

Yes I'm here ..mtgat is fine ..

I agree that your continued loss is of concern and needs further work up...

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Could something serious be going on?
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Yes it could be of a serious nature ..

I would probably focus on the GI tract as I believe you mentioned some abdominal pain...?

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Do you have diarrhea or multiple bowel movements per day ??

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

You may have problem of malabsoption for some reason...

It could be certain intestinal problems / Crohn's disease / Celiac disease / SIBO....others ...

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Do you have frequent urination ?? Frequent thirst??

Onset of type one diabetes can present like this ....

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I urinate about three to four times a day
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Is it possible I was gaining weight before due to being depressed?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Now I'm happier and have a stable job and ever since this I've been losing weight
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Hello again,

Yes possible ...

What was your weight prior ?

Age 20? 22??

If you had a stable platform then gained with depression it is possible change in mood state could correspond as reason ...

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
150 poundsI'm 24 years old
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Hello again,

So at 135 you seem well below your normal baseline ..

I think that you need further work up in this case ...

The cause of your weight loss is not clear at this point ....

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Could've I been gaining weight due to depression?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Not to be rude but that's a YES or NO question
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Yes you could gain weight ( or lose) due to depression but it sounds that your baseline was 150...Age 20..22 or later ??

Then max up to 160...correct??

Then you lost to 136 to 140 within past month ...

Latest 135 ...

So trend seems to be continuing // investigation to cause seems to be needed at this time ...

If next week's show stable or gain that would be helpful ...

Let me know if you have further questions or discussion

Best regards,

Anthony Bray MD

I recently took a meds for anxiety and my heart is going fast and I'm feeling mentally slow. Could this be serious?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
This has been going on for about an hour
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 4 months ago.

Hello again,

Only one hour favors that it may be as much anxiety here with these recent symptoms I think ...the meds you took for anxiety may have had a sweating effect on you as to feel mentally slow ....

How is the pulse rate ?? The actual rate would be helpful to know ...
