Customer Question

SP is 56. She has been in jail since December 2015 when she was arrested for DWI. She had been on 4mg of Klonopin for several years. She was not provided any medications for high blood pressure or klonopin for almost a week and had a seizure. The mobility and strength of her left hand are reduced (cannot type or lift much). She has problems with short term memory. There as not taper down before the seizure. The jail had a four day taper down when she returned from medical care. Can sudden klonopin withdrawal after years of heavy doses cause (1) a seizure and (2) a stroke? What impact, if any, does high pressure have here?

This is Dr. Davidsudden withdraw of klonopin can definitely cause a seizure if the patient is prone to seizures.but it usually doesn't cause a stroke.a brain MRI scan is the best way to tell if she has had a stroke or not causing mobility and strength problems in her left arm.without an MRI scan of the brain, it is hard to say for sure if she had a definite stroke or not.severe high blood pressure can increase risks for stroke and aneurysm rupture in the brain and can cause other health problems in the body such as injury to her kidneys and stress on her heart depending on how high her blood pressure is.I am sorry she has had all of these health problemsis she out of prison now to be able to see a doctor outside of prison?
