This is Dr. DavidI am sorry about your mum.it sounds like she is having hospice nursing care.secretions in the mouth are very common at the very end of life when she is not swallowing wellshe is not drowning. it sounds gurgling because she is not swallowing her saliva.she is not in pain because her nurses are giving her morphine which can make her so sleepy that she is not swallowing her saliva.she may benefit from more morphine or a morphine drip which can give her 1/2 or 1mg of morphine by vein every hour to help her stay comfortable and asleep.they can give her oral atrophine drops in her mouth to help dry up secretions. she is not feeling pain while on morphine and madazalamlet me know if you have questions.
