I have had Gastroparesis , a complication of a Partial

Customer Question

I have had Gastroparesis for 21yrs, a complication of a Partial Gastrectomy. For the past ten yrs, I have relied on Tpn, now Enteral nutrition via a J tube. I find that I do not obtain the full effect of oral medication, even if I crush the meds and put them thru the tube no matter what the dosage. I am on chronic pain meds and Baclofen for spasms, but even Benadryl for allergies does not have a good response. I have not seen any information address Gastroparesis and poor response to meds. Thank-you for addressing this.

Hi there,This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.I am here to address your concerns and provide great service. This is indeed a challenging situation. The absorption is very poor.To bypass that route you can consider transdermal patches like fentanyl for pain control.Sublingual films like Buprenorphine also can be considered. Please remember, opiates slow down the intestinal motility further.Best wishes,It was my pleasure to help you today. If I have answered all your questions, Please rate my response Excellent (click on the 5th star on top). Please bookmark my profile for fast, reliable authentic answers! This is the link to my profile:
