Customer Question

We are caregivers for our 80 yr old mother/grandmother. She is under a great deal of stress due to recent loss of husband of 54 yrs. She has history of intercystal cystitis and take hydrocodone regularly for pain. She normally eats 1 1/2-2 very small meals a day. Her calorie intake does not exceed 800 calories per day. She currently is taking linzess as part of her daily regimen. ComplaiNing this morning that she has not had a BM in 3-4 days and feels that she may be constipated. Based on her intake and daily habits we don't feel she is constipated. But would like a second opinion

Hi there,This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist. I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.Does she have any abdominal swelling or pain?If not, then probably her small food intake, and medications can interfere with bowel movement. Gentle stool laxatives like senna tablets can be tried with metamucil as initial management. If she develops pain or swelling, then further evaluation is warranted to rule out bowel obstruction. Best wishes,It was my pleasure to help you today. If I have answered all your questions, Please rate my response Excellent (click on the 5th star). Please bookmark my profile for fast, reliable and authentic answers! This is the link to my profile:http://www.justanswer.com/medical/expert-mysticdoc/
