Why do I get rapid attacks of diarrhea sometimes with vomiting

Customer Question

Why do I get rapid attacks of diarrhea sometimes with vomiting that lasts between five and eight hours then turns off tike a tap and the next day I feel perfectly well. I do suffer with quite a lot of flatulence on a daily regular basis. The attacks come on at random intervals sometimes every eight weeks but sometimes I can for a year without one. This has been going on for six years. I am 71 years old man and am fit and healthy but these attacks can come on at the wrong time e.g my son's wedding! I eat a healthy low fat diet. I am wondering if you can advise me as to what this may be as it can make life very difficult.

HelloFirst of all, you should have had a colonoscopy at age 50, 60 and 70.This would rule out polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, and microscopic colitis. With the vomitting, I would suspect small bowel problems, or stomach ulcer.Small bowel overgrowth is a possitillity.Intermittent small bowel partial obstruction; possible, not likely. Most commonly, infection, viral gastroenteritis, which you might be particularly susceptible to.Or, staph infection from food. Badly stored and cooked chicken is a common offender. It turns off like a tap when it stops. OK, so you might have more questions or want to give me more information: Please use reply to expert if you have further questions.
