Customer Question

52 year old female. 5'3" tall, weigh 170. Sitting gives relief but not gone, can breathe better. Laying flat makes it practically disappear. Only in secluded spot, worse when standing or walking and can hardly breath as its so painful to do so. No other surgeries, no other meds, no family history that im aware of.

This is Dr. David

if you are having pain or trouble breathing in a certain position, it could be due to a rib fracture or fluid outside of your lungs or diaphram problems

you need to go to the ER or see a doctor right away and get a chest xray or chest CT scan

and pulmonary function tests and heart testing to see why you are having these symptoms

it is rare, but blood clots in the chest can cause shortness of breath and chest pains and difficulty breathing.

do you have an ER or urgent care center close to you?
