Hello,

These liver enzymes are mildly elevated. We would generally plan a follow up of this type mild elevation. A recheck of these in 2 months would be typical.

We would review Your habits that might affect the liver --- alcohol intake / Tylenol intake ...

Review medications that you take -- station for cholesterol for example?

Look at factors such as triglyceride levels --- high triglycerides could be a clue as to fatty liver change as possible cause

If no immediate cause is seen and you have no symptoms ( abdominal pain, nausea , itching )

Then we would recheck in several weeks... If then normal you should be fine and may not need further work up...

If higher levels then you would need further work up...check for hepatitis antibodies / abdominal CT or ultrasound /etc...

The AST and ALT are below the threshold of higher concern which would be levels above 70 -100 range ...

Yours are only slightly elevated...

So we take the level into account and most such cases may have a simple explanation and may normalize in a few weeks

So we break this up into mild and transient versus moderate to severe and / or more chronic .....

I hope that this information is helpful for you

Let me know if you have further questions or concerns

I Will be happy to get back with you

Thanks Dr. Just Fyi, I used to consume alcohol daily until 3 months ago. I have now completely stopped consumption. My Bilirubin/Albumin/Total protein are all normal. I do have minor itching in my ear lobes which seem dry. Are these indications of anything serious? Thanks
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 8 months ago.

Hello again,

No minor itching of your earlobes is not the type symptom I was refereeing to....high bilirubin levels can cause diffuse all over intense itch without rash ... Not to worry here ...

Your alcohol consumption likely was cause ...

I expect that recheck in several weeks will show normal numbers ...

So stay in moderation with the alcohol ...

I hope that this is helpful for you

Let me know if I may be of further help

Best Regards!
