Customer Question

I have a chronic problem with constipation and have tried numerous solutions but nothing works well. Any suggestions? I am a male 76 years old, hypothyroid, and slight blood pressure, ie calcium blockers also cause more constipation.

Hi there,
This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

You should switch to a different medication for blood pressure control.

Hypothyroid should be treated aggressively which can cause constipation.

Levothyroxine dose should be increased.

Intestinal obstruction should be ruled out with Ct scan and a colonoscopy.

If no other problem, then this is functional problem.

Newer medications like Lubiprostone can be tried 24 mcg daily.

It improves intestinal motility and water content in the stool.

This can be used with other stool softeners as well.
Best wishes,
It was my pleasure to help you today.
