Customer Question

Brother feels like he needs to go to the bathroom after he has already had a bowel movement. What could this be?

Did he have diarrhea? How old is he? How tall is he? How much does he weigh? When did it start? Is it consistent? Any other symptoms? Is he aware of anything which might triggered it? Does anyone around him have similar problem? Any medical problem? Any surgeries? Any medications? Any family history?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No. 27. He used to have no problem having a bowel movement, all of a sudden, it's like it changed. He still has bowel movements, But not as normal as he used to and not after drinking coffee or eating breakfast like he used to.

Is it normal stool? Small or large? Can he have a bowel movement right after the bowel movement? How many bowel movements does he have a day?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No bowel movements and none right after the other.
He used to get the strong urges to go, now he gets like small urges. Also when he used to sit down he had no problem with it coming out, now he kinda has to push to get it out, not a hard push though. Looks thin or narrow but he's not sure.

Any family history like cancer?

Expert:  khagihara replied 10 months ago.

Does he change his diet?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Our uncle passed away with pancreatic cancer years ago but that's it.. No change in diet.Like I said, he used to have strong urges to go, but now he has small urges to go have a bowel movement.

Does that mean he is constipated? How often does he have a bowel movement a week? How tall is he? How much does he weigh? Any weight change? Does he have difficulty adjusting to cold temperature compared to people around him?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
3-4 times, 5ft 11, 200 lbs, no weight change but by maybe a pound or 2.
No difficulty.

That means not every day. He should eat a lot of vegetables and fruits containing enough fibers and drink a lot of liquid. Walk fast every morning before breakfast. You may take Metamucil if he doesn't take enough vegetables and fruits. If it doesn't work, he should take MiraLax. If it still doesn't work, he should see his doctor and refer a GI doctor to have an exam such as colonoscopy.

What would metamucil and Miramax do??
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
He also works for Dr Pepper and walks a lot already...
Are you saying that he may be a little constipated or a lot constipated.
Expert:  khagihara replied 10 months ago.

Metamucil contains fibers. Miramax is laxatives. I think he is a little constipated. Another thing is he should go to the rest room soon when he wants to evacuate.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
He does go to the rest room whenever he needs to, and he has some come out. He just says something doesn't feel right, like he's not finished but he is..
Expert:  khagihara replied 10 months ago.

That means he feels stool is still in the bowel. It is constipation. He should try the method I mentioned above.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Ok. I'll tell him to try that. Thanks.

You are welcome. Take care.
