What antibiotic is safe to take? I must take an antibiotic

Customer Question

What antibiotic is safe to take? I must take an antibiotic prior to dental work because i have a titanium hip replacement. Tw0 years ago I had a severe case of C-Difficile infection and am a risk of a relapse if I take the wrong antibiotic.

Antibiotics frequently associated with increased CDI risk include clindamycin, fluoroquinolones, cephalosporins, and penicillins. Rarely associated antibiotics are tetracyclines, metronidazole, aminoglycosides, vancomycin. For oral bacteria, vancomycin is best. But oral vancomycin is not effective for oral bacteria. You need to have iv of vancomycin prior to the dental work.
