Customer Question

I have a pain in back of my right ear. The pain seems to be under the skin. I had an eye procedure on my right eye a week ago for a blocked oil gland. I then experienced a headache and ear pain on the right side. My headache and ear pain respond to tylenol but then comes back.
What can I do?

This is Dr. David

the pain behind the right ear could be from a pinched nerve in your neck, high up in your neck.

long procedures on the eye can put strain on your neck and pressure on nerves there.

I'm glad the tylenol helps some

you should limit your tylenol daily dose to less than 3000-4000mg a day, less if your liver is not well.

I would ask your doctor if an MRI scan of your neck cervical spine with contrast could see pinched nerves in your neck.

you might benefit from accupuncture in your neck to decrease pain

physical therapy or massage therapy could help as well
