Hello

Yes there can be something wrong.

If you have not had a colonoscopy, this is overdue.

Constipation that is chronic, even un noticed can cause this.

But so can a tight bowel from a lesion, which would be seen on colonoscopy.

Poor diet can do it.

A problem with the rectum and/or anal sphincter can contribute to your symptoms.

You need an exam this week.

You need a gastroenterology consult, especially if you have not had a colonoscopy within the last 10 years.

Diet should be a cooked vegetarian diet to help stool formation.

Problems with the digestive track elsewhere should also be ruled out [liver, gallbladder, small bowel, pancreas].

See an internal medicine doctor.

OK, so that is an initial answer….

Please use reply to expert if you have further questions. When you are ready, please click a positive rating [hopefully excellent]. If you forgot something, come back. I am here daily.

Hi there,

This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Small pieces of bowel movement suggests lack of cohesion force due to the lack of dietary fibers and fluids.

So, you will need to add bulking agent to your diet.

Insoluble fibers like oat bran, wheat are such examples.

Methylcellulose also can be taken daily to help with your bowel movement.

Now there can also be intestinal infection with bacteria or parasite.

This should be checked with stool tests.

Colon polyps, diverticular disease are other possibilities better evaluated with colonoscopy.

Please also include prebiotics like Inulin daily to keep your colon acidic which prevent gas producing bacteria.

Also take a probiotic ( lactobacilli, bifidobacterium) daily to restore intestinal microbial balance.

Culturelle 30 Counts twice daily should be fine.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.

HI

As I said a cooked vegetarian diet will help

If this works, there is nothing to add

Adding something should also be up to your dotor.

There are no indications of infection here.

As I said , colonoscopy.

There is no evidence at this point that you need probiotics.

.Foods high in fiber include vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes (beans, peas and lentils), whole-wheat flour and wheat bran.Initially you should cook your vegetables well to make the fibers soluble for easy digestion.

Methylcellulose also can be taken daily to help with your bowel movement.

Now there can also be intestinal infection with bacteria or parasite.

Do you have any question?

HI

Again this is the original expert and I was trying to give you this reference but was unable to get back into the question.

See this

http://uclacns.org/patients/disease-information/chronic-constipation/

See this information on colonoscopy

http://www.webmd.com/colorectal-cancer/colonoscopy-16695

Here is some good information on probiotics. The strongest indication is for infection or having the wrong flora in the bowel. They might help with constipation, but data is preliminary.

I am board certified in integrative medicine, internal medicine, trained in functional medicine and homeopathy, etc. I am here daily: use my request link as needed and “for Dr. Thomas” in the question title. Give that link to friends, family, associates, etc. Find me as needed for correct, safe and accurate answers.
