I am a 44 Yr old male Airline Pilot in relatively good shape

Customer Question

I am a 44 Yr old male Airline Pilot in relatively good shape who has been experiencing constant nausea, bloating and full feeling for 9 days now. Started taking nexium 20mg for a few days, local Dr who I went to see for my annual (not FAA) physical last week said to up that to 40mg/day. Symptoms remain the same.
No vomiting, blood in stool or urine. Have dry mouth. Am irregular as well.
What is going on with me and is there another med I can take that might help?
Should I be overly concerned? I certainly don't feel ok.
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hi there,
This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Constant nausea, bloating, fullness feeling can be due to the recent stomach virus infection.

This is morel iekly given the recent onset.

Also dietary indiscretions can make it worse.

Please any fat containing food, fried and spicy food for now.

Also limit caffeine and alcohol intake.

Relative lack of digestion and excessive bacterial action of undigested food cause excessive gas formation.

So that also raises the question of possible gallbladder inflammation and obstructive gallstone.

Liver inflammation or viral hepatitis is another possibility.

It is better to get liver function test and an abdominal ultrasound if no improvement in a week.

You should consider following low fermentable sugar diet ( FODMAP diet) to reduce your symptoms.

Please also include prebiotics like Inulin daily to keep your colon acidic which prevent gas producing bacteria.
Also take a probiotic ( lactobacilli, bifidobacterium) daily to restore intestinal microbial balance.
Culturelle 30 Counts twice daily should be fine.

Over the counter Simethicone ( GasX) strips before each meal and activated charcoal supplements may help with the bloating symptoms.

Best wishes,
It was my pleasure to help you today.
