I am anemic and was given 2 units of blood followed by 2

Customer Question

I am anemic and was given 2 units of blood followed by 2 iron infusions. A colonoscopy, upper gi showed nothing. The oncologist I was sent to see said to come back in 5 weeks for blood tests and the possible bone marrow testing. I am not as weak as I was prior to treatments but still weak. The waiting is killing me, what culd be the problem?

Hello

It could still be intermittant bleeding, and av malformations are often not seen on colonoscopy.

There are other causes of anemia, such as disease of the bone marrow.

This can be diagnosed with a biopsy.

B12 deficiency can do it.

And other causes.

OK, so that is an initial answer….

I am not B12 deficient. My symptoms are shortness of breath, fatigue, hoarseness and persistent cough. I do not drink or smoke
nor do drugs. The waiting is worrisome, what could it be?

my blood count was 7.2 when I got the blood

Myelodyspalsia for exam.

Anemia itself can give your symptoms.

There are many possibilities.

Further testing is needed.

And it could still be bleeding, as I said above.
