I am having severe insomnia. My father just passed and I wake every hour on the hour. I really need help getting some sleep. It is really effecting my school career.

Loss of energy, lost of appetite, loss of concentration. And everything else I get treated with Prozac. I wake up every night with bad dreams about him and can't fall back asleep to save my life. I've tried lunesta and it didn't work at all. The only think that worked was ambien but a lot of doctors here are against it. I just can't stand this lack of sleep. It's causing me joint pain and headaches.

The only thing that has helped me in the 10 mg ambien. Not the stupid generic. I've researched it and many people have said it didn't work as well as the regular stuff

these symptoms have been present for more than 2 weeks?

you taking Prozac? it takes around 4-6 weeks to see full effect of Prozac.

Regarding Ambien, you are right, many doctors must be against its long-term use. Becuase it leads to worse things only.

long term use will cause dependence, tolerance, rebound insomnia, more agitation.

I recommend following

keep a regular appointment with your psychiatrist ( you should be taking supportive therapy/ cognitive behavioral therapy sessions along with medications.

If you smoke, please avoid that,

please use non-pharmacological ways to help sleep better,

no caffeinated beverages after 4 p.m

not more than 3 / day.

try to do regular exercise.

avoid doing any activity on bed.

go to bed only when you feel sleepy.

I don't smoke. I've been on Prozac for 6 years. And the thing is that I am never sleepy. My body is physically exhausted but I can not go to sleep

You seem to have bereavement that is the situation in which a loved one has died, and grief is the distress that occurs in response to bereavement. You should try trazodone or doxepin instead of ambien.
