about 2 months ago i had a virus.....fever and severe body aches. Thats all. Fever went away. Aches kind of stayed and progressed to BAD joint pain...hands, fingers, legs......all my bloodwork is normal except CCP is 20 but 19 and lower is normal and BUN/Creatinine Ratio is 27 and 11-26 is normal. Bone scan normal. So they are saying possibly RA because of the BAD joint pain. It keeps me up at night and hurts all day. When I get out of bed, my hands are like the tin man for about 1/2 an hour. Help? Am I dying?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Its scaring me to hurt this bad. Please help
Expert:  DrRussMD replied 1 year ago.

Hello

No

Not dying.

Initially in RA, all of the tests can be normal, EXCEPT an MRI of the hands, which can diagnose early RA, and this can be effectively treated.

I would ask for an MRI of the hands.

OK, so that is an initial answer….

Will I be in pain forever? Is there anything that helps without bad side affects? So RA can just start up this bad out of nowhere?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
they x rayed my hands and it was normal
Expert:  DrRussMD replied 1 year ago.

Yes it can.

x ray is not what I said...MRI is needed.

NO, it can be treated so there is no pain, and often without toxicity.

For example, low dose methotrexate, which cuts down on all side effects.

if MRI is negative, what else could it be? Anything horrible? Is there a chance its not RA?
Expert:  DrRussMD replied 1 year ago.

It could easily be fibromyalgia.

Or other pain syndrome.

Sure there is a chance it is not RA

But we can not diagnose you.

Further testing is needed.
