Customer Question

It's been about 5 days after a big night of drinking on a stag weekend and then a couple of days of very poor diet and moderate drinking. My stomach is still not returned to feeling normal. It's starting to worry me what should I do?

You could have gastritis due to excessive alcohol intake. You should stop drinking for a while and take over-the-counter medication such as omeprazole (Prilosec), lansoprazole (Prevacid), rabeprazole (Aciphex), and esomeprazole (Nexium).

Hello

Do not self treat.

Not having an immediate exam would be potentially dangerous.

Go in for an exam.

You need to make sure you do not have ulcers, hepatitis, etc.

Ulcers can bleed. Alcohol hepatitis can be dangerous.

You need an exam and labs now.

I am a double board certified US doctor and I will always give you correct, concise and comprehensive answers.

OK, so that is an initial answer….

I will not self treat, starting to feel better so I hope its okay. But how would I get hepatitis from drinking too much?
Expert:  DrRussMD replied 1 year ago.

The liver can become inflamed.

If your drinking behavior has been for some time, it can be liver damage.

If not, it can be acute hepatitis and would resolve in most cases, but still needs and exam.
