Customer Question

I suffer from depression and insomnia. I have been on an exercise regimen and have been clean eating since January with little change in my weight which then ties into making me feel more depressed. I was wondering if there could be a hormone imbalance but my doctor wouldn't discuss it with mr. Is it possible the underlying cause is hormonal? And if it is what can I do to balance it out since my doctor wont even talk about it?

Dear customer,

Thanks for your question.

What is your weight and height?

Yes, this could be hormonal and I would at least advice you to get your thyroid function tests done., since a low thyroid hormone level could be responsible for the inability to lose weight.

Take care.

I'm 5 ft 2in and 220 pounds. How can I get the tests if my doctor wont explore the option that I have a hormonal imbalance? Thank you!

Dear customer,

Please consult another doctor to get a second opinion. An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) may also present with mood disorders such as depression. Appropriate treatment such as medication that replaces missing thyroid hormone will usually improves both emotional and physical symptoms such as weight gain caused by thyroid disease.

Take care.
