Customer Question

I suffer from opioid induced severe constipation, which is relieved only by magnesium citrate and am scheduled to have prostate surgery for urine retention - few cuts in prostate. I am afraid that I have to cancel surgery because I have to strain a lot. Please give me advise.

Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and I'm ready to help.
you should be fine with the surgery
keep using the magnesium citrate to help you have bowel movements
talk to your doctor about medications like lactulose or Linzess which could help your constipation as well
make sure you drink lots of water and fluids each day.
magnesium citrate like other laxatives pulls water from your blood system into your GI system to help your bowels move. if you are dehydrated, then there is no fluid to pull from your blood system.
have you tried these other medications for constipation?
