My husband found a dead armadillo in our yard this morning.

Customer Question

My husband found a dead armadillo in our yard this morning. We don't know if our dogs killed it or dragged it in from the road. I have found information on the danger this poses for the dogs, but not our kids. Although the dogs can't get leporsy, can they pass it to my children? Are there any diseases the dogs could pass to my kids??

Hello I am Dr Pravin . Being a Dermatologist I have worked in the field of leprosy for more than 7 years.

We do deal with patients in our clinical practice and have also studied animal models of armadillo in transmission of leprosy.

Would you like me to assist you in this case?

You do not have to accept it . You can continue and you will not be charged

It is charged only if you accept it

You will be charged what you have originally paid

The chance of transmission to your dog is negligible. Leprosy naturally infects armadillos as they an ideal reservoir.

The leprosy can get transmitted if the dog has eaten the animal flesh

The dogs cannot in turn pass it to your kids

Very rarely armadillos are known to harbour rabies

Is the animal still there ?

Have you contacted the authorities?
