Customer Question

I am Retired nurse. I am not familiar with :" Ask a Nurse" , St Joseph's "Care Call". I moved here in November 2014. I have been coughing every day all day for the last week. I tried over the counter meds, etc; tried gargling, etc. Scratchy throat, swallowing is tight; glands somewhat swollen. Left gland a little tender. Continuous runny nose for two weeks. Afebrile. Feel totally wiped out.
Thank you .

Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and I'm ready to help.
you need to see a doctor and get a throat culture to check for strep throat. some bacterial throat infections can not cause fever.
runny nose and post nasal drip can also be irritating your throat as well.
you might need allergy medications like fexofenadine (Allegra) 180mg and a steroid nasal spray like Nasonex or Nasocort (OTC) to help.
this could also be a bad viral infection as well
you need to be set up with a primary care doctor in your new area
or you can see a doctor at an urgent care center.
you can't do a throat swab yourself
let me know if you have questions.
