Customer Question

I am currently taking 1.5 mg of lorazepam. I take this to help me with my anxiety. I was told that teas can also help calm you down.my concern is that I know that some herbs do not mix well with certain medicines. I was told to make myself a tea that consist of several herbs. I would like to know if it's safe for me to take? The herbs are : seven blossoms, linden flowers, Passion flowers, lemon balm, star anise, and pennyroyal oh and some other two called goto kola and mate.
I was told to add a pinch of all when making the tea. Thanks.

Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and I'm ready to help.

I would not use such teas.

these herbs have a very very low chance of helping your anxiety symptoms.

teas with star anise have been linked with serious neurological effects such as seizures, vomiting, jitteriness and rapid eye movement

some reports have found Chinese star anise (Illicium verum) to be contaminated with Japanese star anise (Illicium anisatum), which is a known neurotoxin

if you have bad anxiety symptoms, you should talk to your doctor about this

you might benefit from medications like effexor or wellbutrin or zoloft to help decrease anxiety

also buspirone and hydroxyzine can help decrease anxiety

regular exercise can help decrease anxiety

regular sessions to see a psychotherapist or counselor can help decrease your anxiety as well

have you tried these methods for your anxiety so far?
