I'm having severe lower back pain. It's gotten worse

Customer Question

Hello, I'm having severe lower back pain. It's gotten worse over the past 24 hours ( it's not a muscle sprain ). My urine is dark...is it possible this could be a kidney infection? I don't have a fever. Just hurts to breathe and even sit up. Thank you, Mary

Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and I'm ready to help.
it could be a kidney infection
or it could be rhabdomyolyisis or break down of muscles which can occur from torn back muscles and dehydration which can cause your urine to be dark
you have to drink lots of water and see a doctor right away at the ER for them to check your urine and kidney function
dark urine can be a sign your kidneys are starting to fail and not work properly from rhabdomyolysis and dehydration.
you have to get to an ER right away
do you have a hospital or ER close to you?
