I just right now checked my temperature because I felt feverish. However, my temperature was 95.6. Is a very low temperature like this anything to be alarmed about? Thank you.

Dr. D.J. :

Hi there,

This is Dr. D.J., experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Dr. D.J. :

Do you have any other symptoms?

Dr. D.J. :

If you do not have any other symptoms like chills, shivering, cough, then this is not concerning.

Dr. D.J. :

The normal body temperature may dip a little during winter months.

Dr. D.J. :

Also, there can be measurement error.

Customer:

I have had an upset stomach and constipation. I have taken a warm cup of prune juice and 3 Colace pills with water daily for 10 days, and 2 Ex-Lax pills twice today for the constipation. For the upset stomach, I have taken Mylanta, Prevacid, and Gas-X.

Dr. D.J. :

You can repeat the temperature taking at least 3 times and take the average of the 3.

Dr. D.J. :

Ok.

Dr. D.J. :

Still, that should not affect your temperature.

Dr. D.J. :

Unless there is infection, this is not concerning.

Customer:

But if there was an infection, the temperature would be above 98.6, correct?

Dr. D.J. :

no the temperature also can drop with certain infections.

Dr. D.J. :

Usually the infection has to be severe for the temp to drop.

Dr. D.J. :

mild viral illness will not cause drop in temp.

Customer:

How then can I know whether or not I have a severe infection?

Customer:

That is what I am afraid of.

Dr. D.J. :

severe infection will cause more symptoms like shivering, dizziness, cough, shortness of breath etc.

Dr. D.J. :

also frequent vomiting, bloody diarrhea for example.

Customer:

So, by itself, it's not a concern?

Dr. D.J. :

not a concern
