This answer was rated:

Just took my first dose of amitriptyline 10mg before bed for depression.

I also take levothyroxine 50mcg once in the morning.

Will these two drugs interact?

I was in the ER about a month ago with chest pain - ER doc said I was having an anxiety attack. Did EKG and said that it was pretty much normal, something was off, but he didn't think it was serious at all, but I should have it re-done with primary doc. Primary doc looked at the EKG report from ER and said all was normal and it didn't need to be repeated.

I'm worried that the 10mg amitriptyline pill I took tonight will cause some type of heart problem? Plus with the levothyroxine I took this morning? Should I be worried?
Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and I'm ready to help.

no, levothyroxine and amitriptyline will not interact.

you should not be worried. it sounds like you are letting your anxiety get the better of you.

you should talk to your doctor about treatment for your anxiety disorder to help decrease your anxiety.

it is safe to take amitriptyline and levothyroxine together.

What about a heart condition? I've read that amitriptyline can cause abnormal heart function? Is this over long term use? Or higher doses? Or can something happen after one pill at 10mg?

amitriptyline can in rare cases cause abnormal hear rhythms like QT prolongation and other issues.

these issues are very very rare

and have nothing to do with levothyroxine.

you should talk to your doctor about these small risks from amitriptyline.

and see if it helps you with your sleep and depression and if the benefits are worth the small risks.
