I was taking morphine sulfate for pain from peripheral neuropathy, but the side effects of drowsiness made you sleep all the time. I then was switched to 80 mil. of oxicontin. They do not make you sleepy, but the pain reliever is not as effective as the 45 mil of Morphine. Can you suggest another painkiller that is as effective as the 45 mil of ms 3x a day,but not with the deep drowsiness of morphine ?

Dr. Natasha :

hello

Dr. Natasha :

are you still there

Dr. Natasha :

Another option for you would be dilaudid (hydromorphone)

Dr. Natasha :

I generally prescribe it to patients who are still having pain after oxycontin

Dr. Natasha :

Now, the stronger the narcotic, generally the stronger the sedative effect

Dr. Natasha :

Another option is to have your physician prescribe you

Dr. Natasha :

marinol, which has some THC properties- this actually works with opiates to decrease dependence on them and still maintain good pain relief (and helps with nausea)

Dr. Natasha :

I hope that this helped

Dr. Natasha :

please leave positive feedback if it did

Dr. Natasha :
