My mother recently had a colonoscopy and has been feeling pain

This answer was rated:

My mother recently had a colonoscopy and has been feeling pain all over her body and as she mentioned across her back. She has arthiritis and is unable to take anything except Tylenol for the next few days. I am worried that the pain is due to some other complication other than gas. Please advise. Could this be something more serious? Thanks in advance for your response!

Dr. Shahzad MD :

hi there

Dr. Shahzad MD :

thank you for your question

Dr. Shahzad MD :

welcome

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Can you please describe the pain a little more for me

Dr. Shahzad MD :

I mean the location of the pain and the intensity of the pain

Customer:

It is a feeling of achiness

Customer:

Mostly across back and left shoulder

Dr. Shahzad MD :

and this is since the procedure or did she have some before as well?

Customer:

There may have been pain in the shoulder before the procedure

Dr. Shahzad MD :

I think that the achiness in the back could be due to the posture during colonoscopy or some muscle being pulled. It does not sound like anything serious to me and should settle in due course of time. Usually up to two weeks at the most

Dr. Shahzad MD :

So I would not worry

Customer:

Okay thanks! Was just taking precaution because my mother has high blood pressure and type II diabetes.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

I understand, you are most welcome

Dr. Shahzad MD :

any more questions?

Customer:

I was also concerned about the effects of sedation

Dr. Shahzad MD :

I do not think it has anything to do with sedation, i mean these symptoms.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

but yes sedation may have caused a slightly abnormal posture leading to slight muscle injury causing pain

Customer:

and wonderedif the pain may be related.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

so all in all does not sound like anything serious

Customer:

Okay, thank you very much!

Dr. Shahzad MD :

You are most welcome

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Hope she gets well soon

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Take care

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Good bye

Customer:

Have a good night

Dr. Shahzad MD :

You too :)
