Hi doctor,Two years ago I had c-diff after a heavy course

Hi doctor, Two years ago I had c-diff after a heavy course of antibiotics to treat prostatitis. It was cured, thank God, and never came back. Now, I have acid reflux and a granuloma in my larynx, and my ENT doctor prescribed a two-week course of 40mg omeoprazole twice a day for two weeks. I'm a little afraid the c-diff might come back if I take the ppi drug. Since I had c-diff two years ago I started taking probiotics and sacharomyces boulardii to prevent its return. Should I stay on the ppi drug for now? Is there a risk the c-diff might come back if take omeoprazole?

I was following your question
The risk of c diff with PPIs is really only seen after months of the medications, not a few weeks
So I would take the medication as prescribed because you need to treat your reflux and granuloma first.
I would definitely be proactive with yogurt and probiotics. Eat a bland diet so the reflux resolves faster
I hope that this helped
Please leave positive feedback if it did :-)

Hello. I'm Dr. Phil, licensed and practicing Internal Medicine Physician. Excellent service is my goal.

Thanks for requesting me. Would you like my help on this question?

Is it normal to experience belching after starting on Nexium or Omeoprazole? I have been burping after I started taking Nexium for a day. I called my doctor and he switched it to Omeoprazole, which I have been taking for the last two days, but I'm still burping. I wasn't burping before I started on it. I had silent reflux, which caused the granuloma.

I noticed you rated the other expert excellent. would you like me to continue?

Hi doctor,

Yes, sure. I didn't know how to add another question to her on the screen. Thanks.

She can see you. Would you like her help or mine? I'm afraid mine would require extra payment

Oh ok, let me ask her then. Thanks doctor.

Yes, it can be normal to belch after nexium. Some people just have this with the medication.
Usually it resolvse when you are done with the course.

Thanks, doctor. How is belching different from reflux? Aren't the ppi drugs suppose to suppress belching as well? Can burping make my granuloma even more inflamed. I'm sorry I have so many questions, but I just want to make sure I'm not making the situation worse by taking this ppi drugs.

Thanks in advance for your patience!

If the belching is a symptom of the reflux, then the PPI wil help.
But some patients reports some belching as a side effect of the PPI.
You will not know until you finish the course of the medication.
