Our family is planning a trip to Peru in Dec & would like to

This answer was rated:

Our family is planning a trip to Peru in Dec & would like to know the best vaccines to get for them. their pediatrician highly recommends hep A, the travel nurses (as I expected) recommends everything from typhoid, yellow fever, malaria. my son (14yo) will be hiking the Inca trail for 4 days with his father and my daughter (12yo) and I will remain in Cusco touring. I also read online there are no recommendations for vaccinations but my husband is adament that the entire family must be vaccinated. I would like your opinion what would be best for our safety, my husband's peace of mind and my pocketbook. I am a registered nurse and understand the importance of vaccines but also aware about overkill.

Customer:

hello

Dr. Natasha :

You do need those vaccines

Dr. Natasha :

Those are not overkill

Dr. Natasha :

you need hep a because that is easy to get in contaminated food and water

Dr. Natasha :

malaria because of the location

Dr. Natasha :

if you are not going to the jungle, you don't need yellow fever

Dr. Natasha :

but you do need typhoid as well- because that is via contaminated food and water

Customer:

how about tetnus for me?

Dr. Natasha :

when was you last one?

Dr. Natasha :

I thought you were a nurse

Dr. Natasha :

usually we are up to date :-)

Dr. Natasha : did you see that
Customer:

haven't had tetnus for some time for myself. kids are up to date. i am nurse, can't you tell? i take care of everyone else first and forget about myself...like your typical overworked night shift nurse full time mother during day.

Dr. Natasha :

he he

Dr. Natasha :

I work nites too and have 3 kids

Dr. Natasha :

if you are out of date, ADACEL is the best choice for you because it is pertussis as well

Dr. Natasha :

and diptheria

Dr. Natasha :

but I ALWAYS get the recommended vaccines

Dr. Natasha :

I have seen too many bad cases of undervaccination

Dr. Natasha :

it isn't worth it

Customer:
