i already put in info . i take a low dosage of irbesartan-300mg and hctz-12.5mg. It is one tablet combined. how can I stop since my blood pressure is normal? 120/80 and lowetr.

911DOC :

Your blood pressure is normal now because of the medicine.

911DOC :

It is possible that you are on a dose which could be lowered.

911DOC :

But lowering the dose or stopping the medicine should be done with the help of your physician

911DOC :

People have the idea that they can 'tell' when there blood pressure is high

911DOC :

and this is not true

911DOC :

hypertension is dangerous because it does NOT cause symptoms and can lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, and eye problems (to name a few)

911DOC :

so your blood pressure is good right now and while your numbers are lower than 120/80 this is also a good thing

911DOC :

unless you are having symtpoms of light-headedness on standing or fainting

911DOC :

the lower the better as long as you are not having symptoms as above

Customer:

I have not experienced lightheadedness. Should I start taking the meds everyother day? IThought that Dr. Owen was responding to my inquiry.

Customer:

I am looking for alternative methods. Are you knowledgable about those methods . I am asking you these questions because my doctor said that I will be on this for the rest of my life.

911DOC :

sorry

911DOC :

yes

911DOC :

as a medical doctor that is the answer

911DOC :

you will need to be on these medicines the rest of your life

911DOC :

unless you are overweight and can lose weight or are not actively exercising, losing weight and exercising can often obviate the need for lifetime therapy

911DOC :

the fact is that there is no 'natural' remedy that has proven to work for high blood pressure

911DOC :

though you will find many practitioners who will claim that a certain herb or supplement will work

911DOC :

stand by

911DOC :

there are suggestions at the bottom of that link for lifestyle changes that could help

911DOC :

AND for alternative medicines that MIGHT help

911DOC :

so that will be a good reference for you

911DOC :

i am sorry i was absent from the chat

911DOC :

i had a phone call and lost track

911DOC :

as you can see from the Mayo link

911DOC :

some alternative therapies that you can try include

911DOC :

alpha linoleic acid

911DOC :

blond psyllium'

911DOC :

calcium

911DOC :

cocoa

911DOC :

cod liver oil

911DOC :

coenzyme Q12

911DOC :

omega 3 fatty acids (usually fish oil)

911DOC :

and garlid

911DOC :

though you will want to check with your doctor before starting these

911DOC :

as there are some interactions

911DOC :

with other medicines

911DOC :

but honestly, if the alternative medicines worked, we would prescribe them

911DOC :

911DOC :

as well

911DOC :

there are some cases, especially with people who drop weight or increase their cardiovascular fitness

911DOC :

where blood pressure normalizes without medicines

911DOC :

but this is usually with people who are quite obese and sedentary who manage to change their lifetsyle

911DOC :

if you smoke, quitting could also do the trick

Customer:

Thank you. How do I know what works if I dont try? If i break an arm I dont wear a cast all my life. If the medicine is working to lower it, when Does the dosages prove its worth? I will take another chance and talk with my doctor.

911DOC :

please do try. one thing to remember is that it's not a single blood pressure measurement that matters. to get a good guage of where you are in the control of the blood pressure issue a 3 day check needs to be done by your doctor. it's the average of these readings that matters.

911DOC :

the dosage proves it's worth

911DOC :

over the years

911DOC :

as it takes years of unctontrolled high blood pressure to cause damage

911DOC :

that's why high blood pressure is often called the 'silent killer'
