how long was he on valium and at what dose and frequency?
two years... small dose... 5mg
and he stopped on advice of his physician?
no he wanted to get off... also he was talking ducolax etc for quite a while too and has stopped that as well...
so first of all
i wouldn't worry too much about his lack of appetite
people can go many weeks without eating
and as long as he is hydrating well this can be watched and hopefully his appetite will return shortly
he is in withdrawal from the valium
HERE IS A GOOD LINK THAT DETAILS SYMPTOMS
so withdrawal can last for weeks?
As you can see, the withdrawl is unpleasant, and can, in fact, last for a week or two in the case of valium
he was on a pretty small dose so hopefully it the symptoms will start to remit in the next few days
I see. What about the weight loss? should I begin worrying if he still cant eat after the second week?
I think you should contact his doctor
for now fluids and small bits of nutritous food will be fine
i think if he has profuse vomiting
or worsening symptoms that he should be seen
as he might, at that point, need IV fluids
I'm glad he's no longer vomiting
he is courageous to do this cold turkey
OK got it. I'm keeping him hydrated. Hes crazy lol but yes courageous
do you have any further questions about this for me, and can I check in with you in a few days to see if he is making progress?
what would have been the normal procedure? just curious
there really is no good way to do it. tapers come with there own problems (mainly failure to quit)
there will always be a rough spot no matter how it's done
this way is the quickest way
yes, I would think so...
and at his dosages one would not expect the more serious complications such as seizure
and he is out of the window for most of the really bad things
nope thats about it
wish him well for me
support him and encourage him
and he should do fine
