I have a non itchy skin rash on my stomach right at the belt line.
Never gets worse never irritates just bugs me.
Can it be a clothing or food allergy?
How long have you had this rash?

Have you ever had this checked by a doctor?

Thank you:

Without examining you, there is no way to make a diagnosis. Since this has been a problem for several years - an evaluation by a dermatologist would seem to be the best approach.

Personally, I would be less likely to suspect a food allergy since it is localized. This could represent an allergy to a detergent. The waist is one of the places where clothing tends to be tightest. Trace amounts of detergent, fabric softener or dryer sheet retained in the clothing can cause chronic allergic type rashes.

Eliminating use of dryer sheets and switching to a different laundry detergent may help eliminate the problem. However, if this simple approach does not work, an evaluation by a dermatologist would be appropriate.

Good answer!
I will definitely take your advise re detergent and fabric softener.

This rash is not itchy or irritating, but can you suggest an over the counter ointment or cream thatmight work. I have quit using fabric softener which I think could bethe culprit. Approximately how long will it take before I notice a difference?

I'm sorry - I was offline when you responded.

Typically, I would expect the rash to clear over a few weeks after you stopped wearing clothes that had used the fabric softener. Remember: The clothes that are still in your closet would need rewashed if you want to avoid continued use for weeks after you stopped using fabric softener in your laundry.

You could try on of the over-the-counter hydrocortisone creams to see if that might help.

Thank you for your advice.
I will do my best to avoid clothes that have fabric softener and
will try hydrocortisone cream.
Will keep you posted.
