Hi I'm Dr. Phil. Can I ask your first name?>
HI Carol. I'm sorry you are so sick
Actually it is my sister, but thanks.
Did they try weaning off narcotics?
She has cut use in half but because of her bone problems needs them. We aware she needs to get off them but we are waiting on a alternative.
I think there are many alternatives she could try
gabapentin, lyrica, cymbalta
All non narcotic and great for chronic pain
Ok, will they be something insurance will cover and will it also help with pain from the blocked arteries?
Yes and yes
gabapentin for sure will be covered
Ok, could she have something else wrong in the abdomen? Has had a lot of tests.
Does it hurt when she eats?
Yes, she tries to eat but mostly soft foods. Drinking some protein shakes.
That is the vascular disease
Does she smoke?
She just had an angiogram of the arteries in the abdomn and they were ok. She used to smoke.
The only way to know for sure is to get her off narcotics and see if the pain improves
I think it will
Your opinion would be that since she's been tested that is probably the main problem? Any suggestions of anything that migh help the severe gas, bloating and cramping?
There is a new drug out called linaclotide that can help. Also another drug called bentyl that is good for cramping and bloating
And yes, I agree with that
Oh I see now she tried bentyl
In that case levsin might be an option
Ask the GI about linaclotide and levsin
ok, I talked to them today and they pretty much said if she doesn't take the Amitiza the won't do anything. She has a follow up in a month. Hope they suffer pains.
I just hope your sister gets better :)
You're welcome George :)
Did I do excellent work for you today?
If so, would you be so kind as to rate me as such?
I would greatly appreciate it.
Well, good at least!!
thank you George :)
