I have MS and cannot spread my legs very far apart. Now I have to self cath and need to get them farther apart. How can I do that?

Hi there,
I am Mysticdoc, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.
I am here to help you with your concerns.
you have few options.
1. You should be started on a muscle relaxant like Baclofen 10 mg 3 times daily to reduce the muscle spasm. This will help with the leg movement.
Physical rehabilitation of the lower back and leg muscles also will help.

2. Instead of self cath, Foley's indwelling catheter can be tried.
THis catheter is inserted by your doctor and can be changed every 2 weeks in your doctor's office.

3. Home health aid-- You can request for a visiting nurse to help with the self catheterization.
Please discuss these options with your doctor.

Is there some type of exercise I can do myself?
Yes, you can do exercises at home.
I will post some links here.
However, it will be better to perform the exercises under supervision of a physical therapist to avoid any inadvertent injuries.

Here are some excellent resources for exercises:

And here is an excellent book available in Amazon:

Hope these resources prove helpful.
