My son is experiencing some particular symptoms. I am a nurse as well. He is 29 and recently is exibiting extreme tiredness. Will come home from work and sleep for 2-3 hours
he has had diareaha (sp) for over a week. two nights ago he almost fainted at a rugby game. he was a spectator. Today he ran a red light without realizing it

health history, no major problems. Had mono in high school. Also played semi professional hockey for 3 years, only playing recreational now. he's had his share of concussios.

Please advise. Should I have him have his thyroid checked? I am booking an appointment with this family doctor. Thanks Patricia
Hello. I'm Dr. Phil, licensed and practicing Internal Medicine Physician. Excellent service is my goal.

Thanks for this excellent question.

I'm very sorry your son is feeling like this.

you are very wise to ask on this site and get some good advice.

I definitely think thyroid needs to be checked

Other labs I would check are

1)celiac antibodies (diarrhea and fatigue are common in this)

2)vitamin D and B12

3)blood counts (CBC for anemia)

4)comprehensive metabolic panel to check liver, kidney and electrolytes

this should be a good start.

I hope this helps.

If you have more questions, just reply. :)

Should I be worried about his previous concussions? As a child when he got the flu he was often hospitalized. Can you provide some words of wisdom to get him to the MD. Often the males in this family resist seeking medical advice. Many thanks. XXXXX have some ongoing questions later this week, may I contact you. I have signed up for the free 1 week trial.

Well, your son not getting checked isn't going to resolve the problem. It is just living in denial!

As a doctor, I can tell there is something going on here.

He needs to see a doctor ASAP

I don't think the concussions are related but he definitely has a metabolic problem
